The Injury/Re-injury Cycle and Cross-fiber Frictioning

A primer about why injuries persist, and how massage can help.

Part I: The Injury/Re-injury Cycle
Although the injury/re-injury cycle may occur in muscles, tendons or ligaments, and most often occurs in the junctions between these structures and their attachments, the cycle may be best illustrated and understood when it occurs in muscle tissue.

Part II: How Cross-fiber Frictioning can Help
Very specific, targeted cross-fiber strokes are applied perpendicular to the direction of the fiber in the tissue, breaking up any fiber not aligned with the fibers in the structure.
